At Portledge, we seek students who will be engaged in and contribute to the school and its programs. We look to identify candidates who demonstrate academic achievement, are inspired by the learning process and want to be part of an inclusive community.
The admissions process at Portledge is designed to give us the opportunity to learn as much as possible about each individual applicant. For each application the admissions office creates a portfolio that contains parental perspective, recommendations from current teachers, transcripts, standardized testing results and an interview with the candidate. These combine to provide us with a holistic view and guide us in the decision process.
We ask that applications be completed by February 10, 2012. At that time the Admissions Committee at each division level will review all files that are ready, and notification will be mailed by March 1, 2012. Following the February 10th deadline, applications will be considered on a rolling basis if space allows.
There are five steps in the admissions process:
1. Completion of the Registration Application form and payment of the $75 application fee per student
2. Completion of additional application forms that include:
PN-1 Applicants: Parent perspective, school recommendation
2-6 Applicants: Parent perspective, school recommendation and records
7-12 Applicants: Parent perspective, student narrative, school recommendation,
english recommendation, math recommendation and school transcript
3. An interview with the applicant and parents
4. A visit for one or more school days as arranged with the Director of Admissions
5. Admissions testing
Applicants for Pre-nursery through fifth grade will be evaluated during their visit day. Applicants for grades six through twelve are required to take the Secondary School Admissions Test (SSAT), which is administered monthly from November through April.
