Mr. Carnicom is raising moths and students in Ms. Renwick’s class (plus others) have been enjoying watching them grow. There are three types in the cage: polyphemus, cecropia, and the lunar moth. The students learned that the Antheraea polyphemus is a brown moth; the Hyalophora cecropia is a vibrant red/brown moth and one of the largest in North America; and the Lunar moth (common name) is a green type. The ones currently being raised are all native USA moths.  The moths are currently in the adult stage-they will live for about 1-2 weeks and then die.  In that time they, they will mate and the female will lay eggs. Mr. Carnicom collects the eggs, waits for them to hatch and then raises the caterpillars to repeat the cycle. A cage is also in the Lower School where students in science classes are able to observe them and learn about the life cycle.

Ms. Renwick’s sixth and seventh graders worked on dioramas this week. Sixth graders researched different creatures and environments in which they live. Seventh graders created their dioramas based on lessons learned in physics.

The Middle School Spring Concert & Art Exhibit was terrific. Sixth Grade Singers, Middle School Chorus, Grade 6 Orchestra, 7-8 Orchestra, Violin Trio, Grade 6 Band, and 7-8 Band performed. A reprise was performed during Town Meeting. Thank you to Mrs. Baehr, Ms. Husing, Mr. Peek, Mr. Schwartz, and Mrs. Yahoves. The art exhibit was so impressive including mixed media drawing, watercolor portraits, graffiti lettering, digital photography, plaster masks, clocks, lamps, self-portraits, recycled object paintings, and PDA cradles. Thank you to Mr. Krause and Mr. Myers. Congratulations to Nicole Arceri ’16 for being named “Artist of the Month” for her “Recycled Objects Painting.” Leila Baadarani ’18 was congratulated for designing the art for the concert program.
