The Lloyd S. Gilmour Library serves grades six through twelve with a collection of 12,000 volumes searchable by means of an Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC). The Internet is available on all of the library’s computer workstations, and on student laptops and mobile devices through the wireless network.
The Library subscribes to approximately 50 journals and periodicals for recreational-reading and curriculum related research. Online databases provide indexing, abstracts and full-text availability to many more periodicals and newspapers of local, national and international interest. The Gilmour Library is a member of the Nassau School Library System, which provide access to local, regional and state collections by means of interlibrary loans.
The Americana Collection, a special feature of the Gilmour Library’s holdings, contains books and monographs specific to the exploration, settlement and development of the American West, as well as Native American history and art.
Instruction in library use is tailored to classroom assignments, and emphasizes the use of reference and nonfiction works, as well as online databases and relevant Internet websites. Emphasis is placed on evaluation of source materials for authority and currency.
