The boys opened their IPPSAL campaign against their fiercest rivals, LuHi, losing 3-0. After settling down and controlling play, the boys seemed on the verge of breaking through the LuHi defense. But they let in a late goal near the end of the first half, followed by a goal from a corner kick at the beginning of the second half, both against the run of play. While the loss was disappointing, other results in the league indicate that it will be a tight and exciting IPPSAL season. The boys will have 4 IPPSAL matches next week.

The boys won their first match of the season in dramatic fashion, 2-1.
Nick Lobley '12
notched the boys first tally for the year at the two minute mark on a feed from
Zach Hescheles '12
. Schecter responded by converting a penalty 6 minutes later to knot the score. The boys were reduced to 10 men at the 65th minute mark, but held strong. As the game wound down center back
Joey Brambil ' 12
carried the ball unopposed into the midfield and kept on going. After a nifty give and go with midfielder
Kyle Flowers '14
,
Brambil
sidestepped the Schecter back line and placed a low shot past the keeper for the winner in the 72nd minute.

The boys dropped a close one at Knox, 3-2.
Nick Lobley '12
opened the scoring at the 8 minute mark, beating the Knox goalkeeper on the near post from a very tight angle. Knox responded twice before the break to take a 2-1 lead at the half. After regrouping at the half, the boys dominated possession and the chances in the second half. They were rewarded with a penalty for a handball in the 75th minute.
Denny Park '12
converted from the spot to seemingly secure the point. But after the ensuing kickoff, Knox brought the ball downfield and pounced on a rebound to claim the win.

An emotional victory for the boys on OSNA's artificial turf has put them back into the IPPSAL picture.
Jacob Fortgang '14
got his first start in net. The boys gave up a first half goal just before the break. But, midway through the second half,
Zach Hescheles '12
put a shot off the post and
Zach Pilson '12
was there to put the rebound in to tie the match. And then
Nick Lobley '12
deftly brought down a
Kyle Flowers '14
chip, split the center backs, and slotted a low shot past the OSNA keeper for the winner. The man of match was
Eric Ghaly '15
, who caused OSNA trouble on the right wing all match long.

If there ever was a hard fought loss, this match was it. The boys went up early again when
Zach Hescheles '12
stepped on the field and with one of his first touches put the boys up. A
Denny Park '12
pass from the left side was touched by both the OSNA center back and keeper, but somehow it fell to
Hescheles
feet, who calmly put the ball into the empty net at the 8 minute mark. This woke up OSNA who responded 11 minutes later when OSNA's Felix Batomou tied the score. The 52nd minute saw the boys produce one of their prettiest goals this season.
Zach Hescheles
and
Eric Ghaly '15
combined to spring
Ghaly
on the right wing.
Nick Lobley '12
turned and one timed
Ghaly's
pass into the far corner of the net under tight marking. But, the heroics were for naught as OSNA's Batomou tied the score in the 63rd minute and completed a hat trick scoring the winner in the 74th minute.

One of the wildest matches in Portledge history saw the boys wearing lime green instead of blue, and nearly snatching victory from the jaws of defeat. Nearing halftime of an evenly played half, Waldorf scored to take a 1-0 lead. Encouraged by their late goal, Waldorf came storming out at the start of the second half, and eventually scored a second in the 55th minute. With time winding down to the 73rd minute,
Nick Lobley '12
crossed low and hard in front of the Waldorf net and watched as the center back shuffled the ball into his own net for an own goal. Now the momentum shifted for the boys and they stormed the Waldorf net and produced a second and third goal in a matter of minutes to take the lead. In nearly identical fashion,
Eric Diamataris '12
put one in of his foot while
Ethan Sheinker '15
put one in of his head in wild goal mouth scrambles. But a minute and a half was just too much time to kill off at the end. After an accidental hand ball, Waldorf lined up a free kick from nearly 30 yards out. With almost everyone expecting a high arcing kick, a low driven shot eluded everyone to tie the match. Although it was one of the most incredible comebacks in the boys history, the draw does little for their playoff chances.
