To further our study of communities, the second grade recently visited the Old Bethpage Village Restoration. The children compared the similarities and differences of today's community to communities long ago. They investigated areas such as occupations, homes, school and utensils used. We constructed a comparison chart of communities long ago and today using pictures from our trip. We will have a "long ago" day here at school in which the children will wear old fashion clothing and use no electricity.

The First Grade presented a splendid, poignant and amusing tribute to moms everywhere in this year's Mother's Day Assembly. Watch the slide show to see all the "little ones" in their finest attire singing their praises to mom!

Third and Fourth graders recently traveled to the Storm King Art Center in Mountainville, New York, in conjunction with their study of the art of Andy Goldsworthy and in celebration and recognition of Earth Day. Located on 500 acres of landscaped lawns, the museum celebrates the relationship between sculpture and nature fields, with woodlands providing the site for postwar sculptures by internationally renowned artists. At Storm King, our students explored an exhibition space defined by sky and land. Unencumbered by walls, the subtly created flow of space is punctuated by modern sculpture. The grounds are surrounded by the undulating profiles of the Hudson Highlands, a dramatic panorama integral to the viewing experience. The sculptures are affected by changes in light and weather, so no two visits are the same.

Lower and Middle Schoolers presented an exhibition of topical science projects related to their class work and off-campus activities at the annual Science Fair in the Wellington Gym on April 24th. Students made use of multimedia, animation, the Internet, educational games, trivia challenges, and other interactive tools demonstrating critical local and worldwide issues, and how they can make a difference to our planet’s future.

The Third Grade presented Bouki et Malice, adapted by Madame Mathieu, at an outstanding Lower School assembly. Performed entirely in French, with English introductions, the students expertly presented the Haitian folk tale of Malice, who gives a bath to his grandpa every Saturday. It was a job he did not like and one day, he decided to pass on the job to Bouki. What a fun-filled time both the actors and the audience had on May 5th!
