How Parents Can Help Their Child Handle Peer Relationships in School

Here’s a brief recap from the “Coffee with Dr. Lustberg."

There were three major parts of the talk:

First, we discussed ways in which parents can prepare their children for school and their greater social environment including peer interactions.

Next, we talked about methods and techniques that parents can use to help their children deal with the typical social-emotional challenges that they face, plus we also addressed bullying and other social peer issues that affect the various age groups.

Last, but not least, resources for parents to access on the Web were provided. These links give specific ideas and techniques on how to help children.

è A good summary of some of the principles of learned optimism and how to apply them.  This is a good parent site. http://theparentingcenter.info/press_files/PPoptimism.pdf

è A good summary of Learned Optimism by the author Dr. Martin Seligman http://bookoutlines.pbworks.com/Learned-Optimism

è An outline that the American Psychological Association has provided that concerns bullying. Although it says it is a module for teachers, it really is a comprehensive introduction to bullying.
