Portledge Hosted 38th Annual Auction Gala - The Crystal Ball Portledge School hosted its 38th Annual Auction Gala fundraiser on Saturday, April 16, 2011.  Over 240 parents, faculty and staff, alumni and friends attended The Crystal Ball at Engineers Country Club in Roslyn Harbor.  The school has been fortunate to have former NY State Commissioner, Bernadette Castro as the auctioneer, a role she has expertly filled for more than a decade.  The bidding was matched only by the spirited dancing that continued until midnight.   This black tie event was coordinated by the Advancement Office and led by Parents Association volunteers who solicited and organized a journal, raffle prizes for the silent and live auctions, and decorated the venue.  For the third consecutive year, the auction gala was chaired by parent and trustee Samara Meshel.   Other committee chairs included:  Meryl Cohen and Sharon Greenstein (Journal), Carolyn Mott (Silent Auction), Wendy Fentress (Live Auction), Gina Levy (Dream Ticket) and Ellen Hobbs (Decorations).   There were over 200 auction items including donated gifts from alumni, faculty, staff, parents and students.  Some of the highlights were:  tickets to a Bon Jovi concert, a featured role in the new The Three Stooges movie by the Farrelly Brothers, a week at the Kapalua Ritz-Carlton, Knicks Ball Kid, cooking classes, elite fitness package, golf, dinner party, yoga party, music lessons and Division Head for A Day.   Board of Trustees President, Terri  Austin Keogh ’85, said, “We are very grateful for the tremendous support from our parents, faculty, administration, alumni, friends, partnering businesses and community to help make this a terrific and fun filled evening, while at the same time raising necessary money to support the current operating budget of the school.”
