It was a tough opening day loss for the boys middle school baseball team to St. Bernard's school. The Panthers lost 12-1 in a lopsided score that was not all that indicative of the game. 2 innings where multiple errors were committed resulted in 10 runs for St. Bernard's. Eli Genzel '16 pitched well, and with better defensive support the game would have been much closer. The lone bight spot on offense for Portledge was a solo home run by Anthony Porrino '17.
The middle school baseball team scored a big win against East Woods 16-8. An outstanding pitching performance by Ethan Axelowitz '16 who allowed only 2 earned runs and no walks highlighted the game. An offensive barrage was lead by Eli Genzel '16, Axelowitz and Jeremy Berger '17 with multiple hits and RBI's. Isaiah Alonzo St Surin '19 and Andrew Palacios '18 also contributed offensively.
The young Panthers lost in a lopsided contest to a superior Buckley team 18-0. Eli Genzel '16 broke up Buckley's bid for a no hitter with a 4th inning single. Portledge will look to bounce back with 6 games in the next two weeks.
The young Panther baseball squad put up a valiant effort against Greenvale yesterday falling 11-6. In a constant light rain, Eli Genzel '16 pitched well, and went 2-2 with 2 RBI's. Ethan Axelowitz '16 went 3-3 with two RBI's as well.
The middle school baseball team bounced back yesterday and beat SSDS 5-0. A complete game, 1 hit shutout was turned in by Isaiah Alonzo St-Surin '19. Alonzo St-Surin also fanned 13 batters in a brilliant 6 inning effort. Andrew Palacios '16 had 3 RBI's and Aidan Hobbs '17 and Eli Genzel '16 chipped in with one RBI a piece.
