Biology Labs

We may not do the labs in this order; however we will do our best to cover all of them. If time permits more labs, I have plenty of cool things!

1.     Lab Safety

·        Being safe while performing lab experiments

2.     Microscopy

·        Understanding microscope use.

·        Measurement

·        Depth of field

3.     Scientific Method

·        Using Scientific Method to answer key questions.

4.     Mitosis

·        Learning to identify the cell during different phases of cell cycle

5.     Meiosis

·        Understanding the difference between meiosis and mitosis

6.     Genetics

·        Learn basic concepts of Mendelian Genetics

·        Probability and randomness

·        Punnet Squares

7.     Cleavage, Gastrulation and Organogenesis

·        Learn the general changes that occur in the early development of vertebrate embryos

8.     Evolution and Natural Selection

·        Hardy-Weinberg Law

·        Principles of natural selection

·        Genetic frequencies

9.     Taxonomy and Microorganisms

·        General concepts of taxonomy and systematics

·        Wet mounts and stains

10.  Fungi

·        Characteristics of plants and fungi

11.  Dissection Fetal Pig

·        Mammalian anatomy inside and outside.

12.  Dissections (MAYBE)

·         Invertebrates- worm. clam

·        Vertebrates- starfish

13.  Ecology

·        Dichotomous key

·        General concepts of ecology

·        Ecology on campus

14.  Cells, Tissues and Organ Systems

·        How are living things organized?

15.  Transport

·        How do materials enter and exit a cell.

16.  Enzymes

·        How chemical reactions occur so quickly and without much heat.

17.  Photosynthesis and Cell Respiration ( may take two labs)

·        Why do we need plants and they need us?

·        How do they utilize nutrients?

18.  Blood and Circulatory system

·        How fit are you?

19. Musculoskeletal System

·        How do we move?
