At Portledge, we seek students who will be engaged in and contribute to the school and its programs. We look to identify candidates who demonstrate academic achievement, are inspired by the learning process and want to be part of an inclusive community. A key element that strengthens our community is the sense of family that exists here, due in part to the large number of siblings attending the school. In an effort to further this inherent strength, the Admissions Office has developed a new SIBLING EARLY DECISION POLICY.
The SIBLING EARLY DECISION POLICY provides preferential access for Portledge families in the admissions process, and the chance to conclude their independent school search early if accepted. Applicants will go through the procedural steps outlined below, but all the applications of siblings who complete the steps outlined below by DECEMBER 15, 2011 will be evaluated by JANUARY 15, 2012, which gives Portledge families priority for admissions vacancies. Under this policy, a student can be denied admission or deferred for further consideration during the regular admission process.
There are five steps in the admissions process:
1. Receipt of Registration for Application form and $75 application fee per student
2. Receipt of additional application forms that include:
PN-1 Applicants: Parent perspective, school recommendation
2-6 Applicants: Parent perspective, school recommendation and records
7-12 Applicants: Parent perspective, student narrative, school recommendation,
English recommendation, math recommendation and school records
3. An interview with the applicant and parents
4. A visit for one or more school days as arranged with the Director of Admissions
5. Admissions testing
Applicants for Pre-nursery through fifth grade will be evaluated during their visit day. Applicants for grades six through twelve are required to take the Secondary School Admissions Test (SSAT).
