The Portledge Early Childhood program focuses on the development of the whole child. At the heart of the program is the world renowned Reggio Emilia approach to Early Childhood education which emphasizes children's innate curiosity. We believe that cultivating this natural curiosity is the cornerstone to a successful lifelong love of learning.
In the Early Childhood program, classes are designed to support the social-emotional as well as the intellectual needs of children. We accomplish this by having children experience meaningful play and exploration guided by warm, caring teachers who are trained to identify each child's needs.
The experiences your child will gain in our program will provide them with a strong foundation for academic excellence. You will see growth in your child's ability to problem-solve and excel in developmentally appropriate activities, as your child is nurtured in our child-centered environment.
The Early Childhood Program at Portledge strives to assist your child to make strong connections with peers and the greater school community. Our families are both warm and welcoming and we provide what we think is the perfect bridge between home and school through parent and family involvement in classroom and school-wide activities, which are all designed to make our program a perfect home-away-from-home learning experience.
We warmly invite you to visit Lower School and meet with Mr. Alan D. Cohen and our Reggio-trained, caring, and sensitive Early Childhood faculty..
Together we question, investigate, negotiate and share in the "joy of learning."
