At Portledge, we seek students who will be engaged in and contribute to the school and its programs. We look to identify candidates who demonstrate academic achievement, are inspired by the learning process and want to be part of an inclusive community.

Admissions Procedures

The admissions process at Portledge is designed to give us the opportunity to learn as much as possible about each individual applicant. For each application, the admissions office creates a portfolio that contains a parental perspective, recommendations from current teachers, transcripts, standardized testing results and an interview with the candidate. These combine to provide us with a holistic view and guide us in the decision process. We ask that applications be completed by February 1, 2019. At that time, the Admissions Committee at each division level will review all files that are ready, and notification will be mailed by March 1, 2019. Following the February 1 deadline, applications will be considered on a rolling basis if space allows.

There are five steps in the admissions process:

1. Completion of the Registration Application and Transcript Release form and payment of the $75 application fee per student.

2. Schedule a tour.
Call (516) 750-3202 or (516) 750-3203 for a tour of the campus.

3. Schedule a student visit and interview.
A visit day is an important part of the process and includes an interview. Applicants for Pre-Nursery through sixth grade will be evaluated during their visit day.

4. Register for SSAT (Secondary School Admissions Test) - Grades 7-12.
Register at SSAT.org. List Portledge as a test recipient - code 5854

5. Completion of additional application forms that include:
Optional: Submit Financial Assistance. Register at sss.nais.org and submit the Parent Financial Statement. Submit current credit report, a copy of 2017 and 2018 tax returns, and signed 4506 form.

Early Commitment Policy

The Early Commitment policy is designed for students who have decided that Portledge is their first choice school.

Application Deadline: January 10, 2019
Decision Notification: January 18, 2019

If accepted under Early Commitment, students have two weeks within receipt of a contract to make an enrollment deposit and guarantee their space for the upcoming year. Students not admitted under Early Commitment may be denied admission or deferred for further consideration during the regular admission process.

Early Commitment candidates applying for financial aid should file their school and service paperwork in December. If you are admitted to Portledge under the Early Commitment plan, you will receive full consideration of an aid package that is comparable to a Regular Decision admit.

Note: The Early Commitment plan is not a binding admission program.
