Portledge in the Now.

New COVID-19 Guidelines

As you may be aware, recently, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the New York City Department of Health (NYSDOH) have both downgraded their isolation protocols for COVID-19 based on the decreasing risk that COVID-19 currently poses to the general population. Therefore, we too will adjust our protocols to be effective immediately.
COVID Protocols
We will now handle COVID-19 the way that we do other respiratory illnesses (flu, RSV):
  • Community members may return to Portledge if they are fever-free for 24 hours (without the benefit of fever-reducing medicine) and all other COVID-19 symptoms improve.
  • A five-day quarantine is no longer required.
  • Upon returning to Portledge, please take the following precautions for a full five days:
    • Wear a well-fitting mask.
    • Practice good hygiene by covering coughs and sneezes, washing your hands often, and using hand sanitizer.
    • If you develop a fever or you start to feel new or worsened symptoms after you have returned, please remain home for at least 24 hours until your symptoms improve and you have not had a fever for 24 hours.

Recommendations
  • Suppose you suspect you/your child may have COVID-19, Influenza (the “flu”), RSV, or any other respiratory illness. In that case, we recommend you consult your pediatrician/general practitioner or visit Urgent Care for testing and care. Please notify your school nurse of any stated diagnosis.

For additional information about these revised protocols, please review the following CDC and NYCDOH pages:

Thank you for your cooperation in helping to keep our community healthy. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions.
