Portledge School's After-School Enrichment program offers a vibrant array of activities designed to enhance students' academic, artistic, and athletic abilities. This program is an extension of our commitment to providing a holistic education that fosters growth, creativity, and curiosity beyond the classroom. By engaging in diverse, hands-on experiences, students are encouraged to explore new interests, develop critical skills, and build lasting friendships in a supportive and nurturing environment.

After 3 Club

The After 3 Club is for families who need their children to extend their school day. The program meets from dismissal until 5:30 p.m. The schedule includes outdoor play, snack time, and homework. If you are interested in joining the After 3 Club, please complete this form. Pricing is included in the form.

  • Soccer Shots

    Using creative and imaginative games, Soccer Shots sessions focus on basic soccer skills like dribbling, passing, and shooting. We also highlight a positive character trait each session, such as respect, teamwork, and appreciation to help build a well-rounded athlete and child. Each week, we’ll make something special—like bright piñatas, cozy woven art, or sweet-smelling lavender sachets.     In this “inventive” program, students design and create solutions to problems, teaming up to identify the need for a new invention, and producing real structures and solutions. In one STEM challenge, students build bridges using a variety of materials and experiment with how much weight they can hold. Students will also learn about famous inventors and discuss how inventions improve our lives.

  • Electronic Game Design

    In Electronic Game Design, students create classic games by combining the innovative Makey Makey® device and programming with Scratch. Makey Makey® is a customizable circuitry tool that students transform into a controller for their games. They’ll learn about how circuits work with computers, coding, and how to design and build a fun game. Expert instructors guide students through making games like Operation and teach them the tools to bring their imaginations to life. Students combine their love for games with their drive to learn in this hands-on STEAM course.
    Please note: Students will need to bring their Chromebooks to this class.

  • Pickleball

    In this energetic class, students will learn the basics of pickleball, including rules, techniques, and strategies. Through fun drills and friendly games, participants will develop their hand-eye coordination, teamwork skills, and sportsmanship. Whether you’re a beginner or have played before, everyone is welcome to join in the fun! The program is taught by Robert Wu, a Pickleball USA Ambassador for Suffolk County and Portledge parent, who brings expert knowledge and a passion for the game to help students improve and enjoy the sport.

    Let's learn about Rube Goldberg machines! In this hands-on program, students build a variety
    of complex contraptions to complete a simple task, such as ringing a bell, while learning the
    basic physics concepts of work, gravity, force, and momentum. Using simple machines like levers, wedges, wheels, axles, pulleys, and inclined planes, students learn to understand mechanical concepts in a fun way, while using their imagination!

  • Ultimate Frisbee

    In our Ultimate Frisbee class, participants will learn the fundamentals of this fast-paced, team-oriented sport, including throwing techniques, catching skills, game strategies, and the importance of communication and teamwork. Led by Mr. Nelson—a passionate Ultimate player since high school who has competed at junior nationals and played internationally—students will benefit from his years of experience both on the field and as a coach. With a background that includes playing in collegiate and club leagues, coaching at various levels, and involvement with professional Ultimate teams in New York, Mr. Nelson brings both expertise and enthusiasm. Through fun drills, scrimmages, and fitness activities, students will build agility, coordination, and sportsmanship in a supportive and energetic environment.   • Orienteering

    In this orienteering class, students will learn how to navigate through the woods using a map and compass — no phone or GPS needed. Gain the skills to explore confidently, knowing how to read a map and find direction in any environment. Students will also discover how orienteering can be turned into a fun and competitive sport. Plus, they will have the chance to create their own orienteering course right next door in Coffin Woods. Whether students are outdoor enthusiasts or future adventurers, this class will help them never feel lost again!
