Lower School Happenings 9/25/2022

Wednesday Assembly
This week our fifth graders hosted our assembly “show” from Mrs. Cavrell’s classroom and each class joined via Google Meet. Cassandra Plunkett and Rebecca Brownstein hosted the assembly this week. Eliana Cruz, a 4th grader, spoke about her Puerto Rican, Chilean, and Peruvian heritage and family traditions in honor of National Hispanic Heritage month (9/15-10/15/2022). Eliana also shared that Justice Sonia Sotomayor is the first woman of Puerto Rican heritage to serve on the Supreme Court. Our quote corner this week comes from Eliana’s presentation. Thank you, Eliana!
Back To School Night
Thank you again to all who attended Back to School Night. We are all enjoying the afterglow of a fun and informative evening shared with faculty and families. As promised, I am including a link to the general Lower School presentation. These slides contain a lot of information about events, happenings, and protocols for this year. Please feel free to reach out to any of us with questions. If you missed your child’s homeroom teacher presentation, please feel free to reach out to them regarding any information/presentation.

Pillar Panther Recipients
This week during our assembly we awarded our first Portledge Pillar Panthers in Early Childhood, Kindergarten, 2nd and 5th grades. This year we will be taking a slightly different spin on the Panther. Teachers will randomly select a student to receive the Panther and the students will observe the ways the recipient demonstrates “Pillar” behavior and qualities over the following two weeks.
