Portledge in the Now.

Traffic Flow & Faculty Parking

Safety is our top priority. Therefore, following traffic patterns and parking guidelines are essential to keep our community safe.  Please read and obey the guidelines below, which will allow for a smooth arrival and dismissal each day. Please also make sure you follow the directions of all guards/monitors on campus to help facilitate dismissal. As always, please drive slowly and cautiously on campus.

Please note: Students are not permitted to cross fields and get into cars still waiting in line for pickup. Please do not pass buses and do not use the left lane to pass lines of cars on Penny Lane during pick up. Such practices are dangerous for our students and often then lead to further poor driving. Students who violate the rules around pickup locations and procedures will incur disciplinary consequences, with detention likely. We ask for the cooperation and indulgence of all parents/guardians driving on campus in following these rules, as well; unsafe driving endangers our community and will not be permitted. During inclement weather, students will wait in Bahnik Hall, and monitors will call them when their car arrives.

Senior student drivers and other prospective student drivers must check with Mrs. Simon for clearance before driving on campus.

Traffic Flow
  • Please see the diagrams illustrating traffic flow per division. If you have children in multiple divisions, please drop your Lower School student off last.
Early Childhood & Lower School:

Please take a left at the Stop sign after the guard booth and follow the road around to drop-off at the front of the Lower School. Exit following the same road used to enter. Drop-off for Early Childhood is between 8:15 a.m. and 8:40 a.m. and 7:45 a.m. and 8:20 a.m. for the Lower School.

Middle School:

Drivers should take a right at the stop sign after the guard booth. Follow the road past the Head of School’s office (formerly the Admissions Office) to drop off in front of the Middle School. Exit following the same road used to enter.

Upper School:

There is no longer access to the Upper School via the Middle School roadway. Drivers should take Penny Lane (the new road) by going straight ahead at the stop sign after passing the Lower School parking lot. Follow the road around the back of campus and playing fields and continue to the drop-off area after the tennis courts. Follow the road in the opposite direction to exit.

Please note: the roundabout between the Middle School and the Commons is NOT to be used during Arrival and Dismissal.

Security
  • Please make sure your Portledge security sticker is clearly visible when entering the campus.
  • For morning arrival, traffic tends to be lightest during 7:40 a.m. - 8:00 a.m.
  • All students who leave campus during the day must follow the division-specific sign-out procedures and stop at the security booth on their way out for final clearance.
  • All parents taking their students out of school during the school day are requested to call ahead to let their division administrators know of these arrangements.
Faculty Parking
Since there will be a number of ongoing maintenance projects to be completed, we need to adjust parking arrangements for the start of the school year. For the beginning of the school year, including August 31st (Orientation Day), we ask that employees adhere to the following parking procedures. All Middle and Lower School Faculty and Staff will park only in the lot by the baseball field. Shuttle service will be available to and from the buildings in the morning. If you choose to walk, (please do not walk in the road at any time and stay within the path). Upper School Faculty, Staff, and Flik employees are asked to park behind the gymnasium and use other parking areas for overflow only. After this period, parking will be on a first-come, first-served basis. We will communicate when faculty and staff can begin parking in the regular lots.
