Portledge in the Now.

Penny Lane Dedication

In November of 2022, the Portledge community was shaken by tragedy. Penny Doerge, a sophomore student, passed away. The community was heartbroken to say goodbye far too soon.

Penny will be remembered for her kind and gentle demeanor and her incredible strength. She approached each day with a positive attitude and willingness to work hard to achieve her goals. She set a wonderful example for all of us, and we will be sure to carry it on in her absence. We were blessed to have her as a part of our community.

Penny’s impact on our community inspired two of her fellow classmates to find a way to honor her legacy at Portledge. Last year, these two students, Cali H. ‘25 and Lia K. ‘25, approached the Head of School with an idea to name our new road “Penny Lane” in her honor. They later presented to the Board of Trustees and with their unanimous support, the students moved forward to fundraise to for this initiative. On September 9th, the Upper School students and Penny’s family came together to celebrate her life in an official naming ceremony of Penny Lane.
