Portledge in the Now.

Recap vs. Chaminade

The Varsity Golf team had the very first nice day of spring season golf yesterday at North Hempstead Country Club. The course was in great shape, green as green gets, sun was bright, no wind or humidity. A perfect setting.

Chaminade proved to be close competition. We carded only 1 match victory by Senior, Andrew Herzig, with a smooth 38 and medalist honors, giving Portledge an extra earned point by being low scorer. The Portledge golfers were competitive in all 5 other matches, losing by 1 or 2 strokes in each.

The team is young and excited about the sport. Payne Plum recorded a 44, and George Anderson, Sebastian Tate, and Tanner Flood each carded a 51. It was an exciting debut for Tanner, Cole Balacek, and Christopher Lall getting their first official match competition under their belts.

The entire 32 crew of Middle School and High School golfers will go over to Glen Cove Golf Club Wednesday to get off campus. 6 players will compete against rain out Avenues, and the others will get a chance to see ball flight at the range, putt on real grass, and practice some bunker shots.

We are very happy that Bryan Biersdorfer, assistant professional from Piping Rock Club, has joined the coaching staff to help with the robust program at the school.
