Solar Eclipse, Monday, April 8th, 2024

On Monday, April 8th, a total solar eclipse will cross the United States. This unique event will be visible as a partial eclipse on Long Island, with its maximum happening around our dismissal sometime between 3:15 p.m. and 3:25 p.m., lasting approximately 3-4 minutes.
NASA guidelines indicate that looking at the sun during the eclipse is unsafe, even with regular sunglasses. As an added measure, we will provide all students, faculty, and staff with solar eclipse glasses for additional protection. We will also provide additional interesting curriculum mini-units centered around the eclipse for our students. We strongly encourage students not to look directly at the sun during the time of the eclipse. You can learn more about safety measures on the NASA website here

Please contact your division director immediately if you feel uncomfortable and would like to pick your child up early from school on Monday to avoid the maximum period of the eclipse. There will be no academic punishment for doing so.

Additionally, all JV and Varsity games will start at 4:30 p.m. so that student-athletes are not outdoors during peak coverage. All practices will start at 4:15 p.m. Middle School athletics will take place at noon and meet in Bahnik Hall. The After 3:30 Club and After School Adventures Soccer will take place indoors.

While we must take precautions, we are also fortunate to witness such a rare event.
