Portledge in the Now.

Appalachian Hope 2017 Collaborative Drive

The Portledge community recently came together for a great cause! The Appalachian Hope 2017 Collaborative Drive.
Students from each grade worked collaboratively to gather donations, everything from toys to clothes to accessories. In the end, there were enough items to fill up a 15ft U-Haul truck, which was generously donated by U-Haul and transported to Sandlick Elementary School located in Haysi, VA. Along the way, kindness was doled out by the Breaks Interstate Park who donated a room for our drivers to rest in during their long twelve-hour drive. The following morning, on December 15th, 2017 almost 500 gifts were donated to those in need. Our very own 5th-grade student, RJ Manners, assisted us this year making sure that every child was given a toy and a coat to keep them warm and happy through this chilly winter season. Special thanks to the Girl Scouts for making the amazing boxes that the donations were carried in. The best gift is giving!

Our thanks to Portledge parents, Julia and Robert Manners, for spearheading this wonderful, philanthropic effort!
