Portledge School's After-School Enrichment program offers a vibrant array of activities designed to enhance students' academic, artistic, and athletic abilities. This program is an extension of our commitment to providing a holistic education that fosters growth, creativity, and curiosity beyond the classroom. By engaging in diverse, hands-on experiences, students are encouraged to explore new interests, develop critical skills, and build lasting friendships in a supportive and nurturing environment.

After 3 Club

The After 3 Club is for families who need their children to extend their school day. The program meets from dismissal until 5:30 p.m. The schedule includes outdoor play, snack time, and homework. If you are interested in joining the After 3 Club, please complete this form. Pricing is included in the form.

    Cooking with Chef Nicki
    Children will learn hands-on culinary skills, nutrition, and kitchen safety through mixing, chopping, measuring, and cooking. This 8-week session will focus on fostering creativity, boosting confidence, and expanding palates by having children prepare and taste their own delicious recipes.

  • Nature Watch

    Mondays

    Bring environmental science into the palms of your hands!
    Nature Watch’s interactive, project-based lessons center around hands-on activities that engage, enlighten, and enliven the learning process. In a given course, students dive deep into topics like animals, ecosystems, climate, and more. Nature Watch’s activity kits align with NGSS, advance 21st-century science education, and are mapped for STEAM extensions. To further promote discovery, all kits include a craft so each student can “make and take” their project home.

  • The Fashionable Stylista

    Mondays

    In our Fashion Design and Sewing after-school program, students are introduced to the fundamentals of fashion design and sewing through hands-on learning. Students will learn to use a sewing machine, practice basic hand sewing techniques, and create accessory projects such as pillows, bags, and aprons. They will also explore fashion illustration and design concepts as they bring their projects to life. Each session encourages creativity, confidence, and pride in completing their own finished pieces. The program is led by The Fashionable Stylista, a fashion design academy dedicated to inspiring young designers through structured, skill-based instruction.

Students develop their golf skills while strengthening focus, confidence, and sportsmanship. With progressive instruction each season, children grow their game and their confidence, year after year.

  • Magic Explorers
    Grades PreK–2nd
    Tuesdays

    Nexplore Magic Explorers invites students on a captivating journey to build their self-confidence, empathy, and grit. Using engaging Magic Activity Packs (MAPs), students explore a variety of mystical challenges, including magic tricks, arts and crafts, and enriching lessons. Each of the MAPs holds the Keys of Magic to “Make it Fun”, “Think of Others”, and “Give Your Best”. Students discover tips for preparing, performing, and creating magic tricks. Guided by skilled instructors, they develop practical magician skills and learn to approach everything with care and courage. Each lesson empowers students to perform their new tricks and share their magical talents. The session will conclude with a small showcase for families!

  • Ballet
    Grades 2nd–5th
    Tuesdays

    Explore the artistry of dance in our inclusive ballet class! Students of all levels will delve into essential ballet skills, gaining proficiency in the five classical positions, familiarizing themselves with movement terminology, and refining core techniques. Students will deepen their understanding of the barre, enhancing their placement and musicality. This 16-week program will culminate in a final spring performance where students can share their progress and celebrate their achievements!

    Students will need to bring: Ballet shoes, tights, a leotard, comfortable clothing, and hair ties for hair.

    Ms Franz was trained in classical ballet and in the Vaganova method, working with schools such as Eglevsky Ballet School, American Theatre Dance Workshop, and Joffrey Ballet. Her technique experience includes the American Ballet Theatre Curriculum, Modern Dance, and Theatre Dance. Ms Franz has had numerous theater and ballet experiences, working with professional dancers in both the ballet and theater industries. She has trained with members of The Broadway Musical, Wicked, and members of The Kirov Ballet.

    The Esports industry is one of the fastest-growing industries in the world. Students will experience the wide variety of collegiate opportunities and career paths open to them outside of being a professional esports gamer. Many of these pathways are anchored in STEM and 21st-century learning skills. A yoga-pilates fusion blends core strengthening and precise movements with yoga’s breath-centered flexibility and flow.     A great introduction to the fundamentals of martial arts in this high-energy progression-based program. Students learn and practice the traditions & skills of the sport, and receive colored belts and stripes for their achievement. Class begins with a bow-in & warm up, then the skill and move of the day is introduced. Students practice and perform the skill, bringing it all together and closing out with a fun and interactive game. Each skill introduced is designed for progression with beginner, immediate, and advanced modifications, allowing each student to progress at their own pace in a mixed ability group setting. Inspired by the traditions and practices of martial arts, Karate Zoo is designed to benefit a child’s physical, social, and emotional development while building confidence and teaching practical life lessons.
