New Employees Update

This summer we onboarded many new faces and welcomed our new teachers at the New Faculty Orientation led by Tommy Kolb, Andrea Scarcella, and with the help of Rachael Ferruggia in her role as the “new” new faculty mentor. Please join us in welcoming the new members of the Portledge community.
Faculty
Veronique Chopin de la Bruyere joins Portledge this fall as the new Lower School World Language Teacher, reporting to Saralyn Lawn. Veronique most recently held the position of Spanish and French Teacher at Trevor Day School and brings over twenty years of world language instructional experience. Veronique also earned her master’s degree in Spanish Linguistics in Childhood Education from Georgetown University.

Morgan Doherty joins Portledge this fall as an Early Childhood Teaching Assistant, reporting to Leigh DeMaria. Morgan most recently held the position of PreSchool Teacher at Oyster Babies Early Childhood Center and brings over twenty years of early childhood instructional experience to her new role.

Justin Haworth joins Portledge this fall as an Upper School Physical Education Teacher, reporting to Chris Disimile. Justin most recently served as a Substitute Teacher and a Coach at Portledge in the 2023 - 2024 school year and looks forward to taking on this new role with our community. Justin earned his bachelor's degree in History from Rowan University. 

Breann Ross joined Portledge this fall as the Middle and Upper School science teacher following Nicole Lesar’s departure, reporting to Amy Manzone and Chris Disimile. Breann most recently held the position of Science Teacher at Our Lady of Mercy Academy and brings over ten years of science instructional experience. Breann also earned her master’s degree in Biology from Hofstra University. 

Doreen Schieferstein joins Portledge this fall as a Lower School Teaching Assistant working with Pep Stein in the 4th grade, reporting to Saralyn Lawn. Doreen most recently held the position of PreSchool Teacher at Saint John’s Little Learners and brings over twenty years of early childhood and elementary-level instructional experience to her new role.

Neil Wilensky joins Portledge this fall as a Middle School History Teacher following Amy Manzone’s departure from the History department, reporting to Amy Manzone. Neil most recently held the position of Social Studies Teacher at the Hebrew Academy of Long Beach and brings over fifteen years of history instructional experience. Neil also earned his master’s degree in Childhood Education from Adelphi University. 

Administrators & Staff:
Linesha Davis joins Portledge this fall as our new IT Associate following Jimel Athony’s departure, reporting to Peter Cox. Linesha previously held the positions of Call Center Representative at Harborview and IT Associate at NYIT and looks forward to leveraging her experience as she takes on a new technical support role. Linesha also earned her bachelor’s degree in Biology from NYIT.

Rafael Trejo Gaitan joined Portledge this summer in the position of Maintenance & Grounds Associate, reporting to Rich Fioto following Michael Graziosi’s departure. Rafael brings about ten years of grounds and facilities experience to the Maintenance team.

Jillian Machover
joined Portledge this summer as our new Auxiliary Programs Director, reporting to Zoe Schwam, following Melissa Worth’s shift to focus solely on Admissions. Jillian earned her Master of Arts degree from NYU in Educational Theatre in Colleges and Communities, as well as her Master of Arts in Communications from Hofstra University. 

Eric Perez joined Portledge this summer in the position of Maintenance and Grounds Associate, reporting to Rich Fioto following Adam Examilotis’ departure. Eric brings over ten years of maintenance, electrical, and service experience to the Maintenance team.

Habib Safadi joins Portledge this Fall in the position of Maintenance and Grounds Associate, reporting, to Rich Fioto. Habib brings over thirty years of facilities maintenance, mechanical maintenance, and grounds experience to the Maintenance team.
