Portledge in the Now.

AI in the Classroom

Portledge School is committed to equipping its educators with the tools and knowledge needed to navigate the rapidly evolving landscape of artificial intelligence. As AI continues to transform how teachers deliver instruction, assess student learning, and enhance their own professional growth, Portledge is investing in resources and training to ensure faculty are prepared to adapt and thrive. This summer, Lower and Middle School Educational Technology and Science teacher Robert Beaton took part in a course focused on the fundamentals of artificial intelligence and is eager to implement what he’s learned in the classroom for the 2025-2026 school year.

Robert Beaton (Science & EdTeach)
“The AI professional development course introduces educators to the fundamentals of artificial intelligence and its practical applications in education. We engaged in interactive presentations, explored real-world AI implementations, and gained access to tools and resources that facilitate AI integration into the curriculum. The course emphasizes AI’s role in solving real-world problems, promoting student engagement, and fostering critical thinking. It also helped to develop strategies to help students recognize AI’s presence in daily life and complete a hands-on, project-based unit applying AI to problem-solving scenarios.”
