Ages 2 - 4
Children will enjoy a half-day of engaging activities, including social play, art projects, exploration, outdoor games, music, and movement. This program offers a well-rounded experience that fosters creativity and interaction in a nurturing setting. Children entering Pre-K in the fall will separately focus on more academic concepts to prepare them for the school year ahead. This program runs 9 a.m.-12p.m. daily from June 30 to August 8.

LOWER AND MIDDLE SCHOOL
Art Meets Science
Rising K-5
Rising Kindergarten through 5th-grade students blend creativity and exploration through daily art and science activities. During their Art Around the World part of the day, students explore different cultures with projects inspired by international art, learning fundamental art techniques, such as color mixing, drawing, shading, and texture. The ScienceWiz program combines inquiry, experimentation, and play! Students will receive their very own ScienceWiz™ kit and use it to dive deep into important scientific concepts, like electricity, sound, physics, and more! Every Nexplore Mini Camp includes life skills, fitness, and joy-based activities that foster community, build essential health and thinking habits, and foster the joy of learning each day. This program meets 9 a.m.-3 p.m. from June 23 to June 27.

The Fashionable Stylista
Rising 3rd-8th
Portledge School is thrilled to partner with The Fashionable Stylista to host a Fashion Design and Sewing Camp. This exciting camp offers rising 3rd-8th grade students the chance to develop essential fashion design skills and experience what it’s like to step into the world of a future fashion designer. The week will conclude with a fabulous fashion show, where parents are invited to see students model their creations, including clothing and accessories they designed and crafted, as well as their illustrated fashion design collections. Activities include hand sewing techniques, sewing with a machine, fashion illustration, fashion design skills (e.g., pinning and cutting patterns), and creating at least one clothing item and two accessories. Students will learn the entire design process, from brainstorming concepts and creating designs to completing their final projects. The camp not only builds confidence but also encourages creativity and self-expression! This program meets 9 a.m.-3 p.m. from June 23 to June 27.
*No prior sewing experience necessary*

Grit Ninja Warrior
Rising K-5th
The Grit Ninja has packed up equipment and is ready to turn Portledge School into a unique ninja warrior obstacle course! During each action-packed day, aspiring ninjas will climb, swing, jump, and run on our ever-changing equipment (which includes a rock wall traverse, monkey bars, grip gauntlet, cliffhanger, balance courses, warped walls, and so much more)! The program is designed by The Grit Ninja’s professional coaches, many of whom have competed on NBC’s American Ninja Warrior. Our coaches will guide ninjas as they tackle our fun obstacles that build strength, coordination, agility, balance, problem-solving skills, self-confidence, and, most importantly, GRIT! This program meets 9 a.m.-3 p.m. from August 11 to August 15.

Maker’s Camp
Rising K-5th
This engineering camp sparks a passion for science and tech. Maker Kits boost mechanical, artistic, and engineering skills, encouraging students to become inventors. They design remote-controlled hydraulic arms and power race cars with energy and experiment with structural design. Strawbees, an award-winning prototyping toy, fosters creativity while students explore hands-on projects using plastic, paper, and other polymers. Build a Bot offers an immersive STEAM experience, where students practice their engineering skills to create a series of robot models with different mechanisms and purposes. This camp is fully aligned with NGSS standards, and students even get to keep their Bots and other creations to proudly share with family and friends. This program meets 9 a.m.-3 p.m. from August 11 to August 15.

UPPER SCHOOL
AI Scholars
What do self-driving cars, Alexa, iPhone's face recognition technology, and ChatGPT have in common? They are driven by modern advances in artificial intelligence. Whether you’re interested in law, healthcare, art, or economics, AI is poised to transform every discipline and industry in the future. AI is already all around us today, and by the end of the program, students will understand the underlying concepts and motivations behind technology such as computer vision, natural language processing, and neural networks.

In this course, we will explore the foundations of machine learning and explore different applications of machine learning models. In the first half of the course, students learn AI’s core technologies, including applications, foundational concepts, and programming tools, through live lectures and coding labs. Students will not only learn about different types of machine learning models but also apply those models to real data sets. In the second half of the course, students will complete an instructor-led group project applying AI to the discipline of their choice (e.g., music, healthcare, astrophysics, finance, etc.), utilizing the programming skills they developed in the first half. This program meets from July 14 to July 18 form 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

SAT Prep
Prepare for success with our intensive SAT/ACT Boot Camp, designed to help students maximize their test scores and approach the exam with confidence. During the boot camp, students will have a comprehensive review of all test sections, including critical reading, math, writing, and science (for ACT students). They will learn proven test-taking strategies, time-management techniques, and approaches to reduce test anxiety, all tailored to give an edge on exam day. At the end of the boot camp, students will take a practice test to assess their progress and receive personalized feedback, helping identify areas for improvement. Whether students are taking the test for the first time or aiming to boost a previous score, this boot camp will provide the tools, knowledge, and support needed to achieve their best possible results. Sessions for this class run both June 23-27 and August 11-15, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.

Algebra II
Algebra II continues to develop the fundamental algebraic skills needed for success in higher-level mathematics. Algebra II thoroughly studies functions, including parent functions, families of functions, and transformations. Students will develop the ability to create and apply models to situations represented by functions. The continued study of equations, systems of equations, inequalities, quadratics, factoring, and solving quadratic equations builds on Algebra I concepts in greater depth as students work to define new functions.

Major topics of study include linear and quadratic expressions, equations, and functions; polynomial, rational, and exponential functions; logarithmic functions, equations, and expressions; complex and imaginary numbers, sequences, and series. Trigonometric concepts involving right triangles are studied, and laws involving non-right triangles are also introduced.
*Students must pass the final examination in order to receive credit for this course. This course meets June 30 to August 8 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
