Dear Pre-Nursery Families,

Welcome to Portledge! We are thrilled to have you and your children join the Portledge Community and, more specifically, the Early Childhood Family. Your child’s first school experience can feel a bit daunting, especially in the middle of the school year. The teachers and I are here to guide you and help everyone adjust comfortably. This email should serve as a guide to get you started on what to expect this semester.

Orientation
We invite you to meet the teachers and explore the classroom on Monday, January 8, anytime between 8:45 a.m.-10 a.m. Adults should stay with their child on Monday so they can comfortably explore their new space and teacher before they separate on Wednesday. Please feel free to bring supplies on this day.

Please review the orientation slides before January 8th with detailed information about our program.

Arrival and Dismissal
Please note that school hours for Early Childhood will be:

8:45 a.m. - 11:45 a.m. for Pre-Nursery students
*If you require an earlier arrival time due to siblings, please contact Leigh DeMaria

Drop-off begins at 8:45 a.m., and classes begin at 9:00 a.m. A designated teacher will greet each car during drop-off and escort the children to their classroom. We find that the children are more successful in their separation when they are dropped off outside of the building or at the classroom door. This may feel challenging at first, but the separation period is often much quicker with this practice. We will do all we can to support you and your child in the separation process, especially in the first weeks of school. Pre-nursery parents may pick up students at the classroom door.

Important Forms
Please be sure to fill out the necessary medical and student forms before starting school. These forms can be accessed through your student portal.

Communication
As parents and guardians to our youngest students, we believe it is important that you stay connected and informed of what is happening in the classroom and the school. Parents/guardians can expect daily picture updates from the teachers via Class Dojo. This is an app that the teacher will invite you to prior to the start of school. Photos and important updates will be posted daily. I will also send a bi-weekly newsletter on Sundays that includes important notes, events, reminders, and dates. This newsletter will also include school-wide information and occasionally messages from the Head of School.

If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to reach out to me. We look forward to an exciting and productive year and extend a warm and gracious welcome to you and your children!

Warmest Regards,
Leigh DeMaria
Director of Early Childhood
