MYPORTLEDGE '23 Upper School

What you need to know for the new school year.

Dear Upper School Families,

I hope you are all enjoying the summer and have benefited from some much-deserved rest and relaxation with your families…but Portledge misses you! As Labor Day approaches, we are all excited to have our Upper Schoolers back on campus. As I look out the window at the work being done to beautify our Upper School quad, I’m reminded that while there is much activity on campus, it’s really the students and faculty that bring 355 Duck Pond Road to life. It’s not a school without you and your families to walk the halls, perform in the Black Box theatre, play on Sawyer field, study in Gilmour library, socialize in the Commons, and debate in our classrooms.

We’re looking forward to seeing all Upper School students for the first day of school on Tuesday, September, 5th. The first class of the day this year will begin at 8:20 a.m. every day. That first day will include a special schedule which will include our annual Opening Day Convocation.

All 9th graders and new 10th and 11th grade students should plan on attending our Upper School Orientation from 1:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 31st. New students will get a chance to make sure they understand how to navigate myPortledge, meet their Dean, and meet their Student Council representatives and Peer Leaders. The 9th graders will hear a little bit about the upcoming Blairstown retreat as well. Portledge 9th graders have been visiting Blairstown for over 40 years! This year, some of our Junior and Senior Peer Leaders will be joining us on the trip as well to help shepherd our newest Upper School Panthers.

We hope you have had the time to review your child’s schedule and look at all of the information on myPortledge. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your student’s schedule, feel free to contact scheduling@portledge.org.

Please review the 2023-2024 Handbook linked on this page. In it, you’ll find answers to some of the most frequently asked questions regarding academics, attendance, behavioral expectations, college counseling, community service, final exams, and athletics among other things.

I look forward to the start of another successful school year.

Warmest regards,

Middle & Upper School Division Director
