Portledge in the Now.

Rising Sixth-Grader Information

We are very excited to welcome your children to Middle School this September! We know they have been well prepared for both the academic curriculum and the day-to-day responsibilities of a Middle School student.
As we look ahead to a successful transition, we want to emphasize the importance of entering sixth grade having read and annotated the summer reading book, knowing the multiplication tables, and being proficient in long division. These foundational skills are critical for success in the sixth-grade math curriculum.

The sixth-grade math teachers will begin the year with the expectation that students already have automaticity in multiplication and division, and the sixth-grade English teacher will also have the expectation that the students have read and annotated the reading book.

To help your child review and reinforce the essential math skills over the summer, we recommend using online resources such as Reflex Math, among other tools and strategies. Thank you for your partnership in preparing your child for the exciting journey ahead in Middle School!
