Portledge School Earns RAIL Endorsement in AI Literacy, Safety & Ethics

Portledge School has been awarded the Responsible AI in Learning (RAIL) Endorsement in AI Literacy, Safety & Ethics by the Middle States Association, recognizing the School's leadership in implementing artificial intelligence responsibly, ethically, and thoughtfully across its community. The endorsement is valid through July 2028 and recognizes Portledge as one of RAIL's "Founding Fifty" schools, helping to establish best practices for AI in education.

The endorsement reflects months of collaborative work by faculty and staff to develop a comprehensive framework for AI governance, professional learning, policies, strategic planning, and responsible implementation. As part of the process, Portledge established AI-related policies, created professional development opportunities, integrated AI into strategic planning, and reinforced its mission, values, and Portrait of a Graduate through the lens of emerging technologies.

"This endorsement reflects our commitment to preparing students not only to use AI effectively, but to understand it critically, ethically, and responsibly," said Head of School Simon Owen-Williams. "As technology continues to shape the future, Portledge is committed to ensuring our students and educators are equipped to lead with integrity, curiosity, and purpose."

This achievement reinforces Portledge's ongoing commitment to innovation in teaching and learning while ensuring that emerging technologies are embraced in ways that support student growth, academic excellence, and ethical decision-making.
