Portledge in the Now.

When Science & The Arts Meet

Avery Sklar '26
To earn a Project of Distinction, this student undertook an ambitious, multidisciplinary research and creative process to conceive and write an original full-length play. Demonstrating immense scholarly maturity, the student synthesized deep medical research into the psychological realities of Alzheimer's disease, historical investigations into evolving family expectations, and specialized theater production design. When faced with significant logistical and scheduling obstacles that disrupted the initial plan for a student read-through, the student pivoted with remarkable adaptability and problem-solving. Ultimately, the student expanded the scope of the project to deliver a dual final product: a comprehensive, emotionally resonant original script and a meticulously hand-crafted stage diorama to visually map out the scenic architecture. This exceptionally thorough and deeply dedicated creative endeavor was impeccably researched and structured.
